The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) standing committee has approved the construction of a flyover at Mundhwa junction, popularly known as Mahatma Phule Chowk, to ease congestion at one of the city’s busiest intersections.
The junction connects key routes such as the Kharadi bypass, Mundhwa, Keshavnagar, and Tadigutta Chowks, and has long been a bottleneck for commuters, particularly during peak hours. The proposed flyover, spanning approximately 1,080 metres, is expected to streamline traffic movement between Kharadi and Mundhwa, significantly reducing travel time. The project is estimated to cost around ₹126 crore.
To facilitate smooth execution, the civic body has already undertaken the removal of major encroachments around the junction over the past six months. Standing Committee Chairman Shrinath Bhimale confirmed that the construction agency has been finalised and that work will begin shortly.
Once completed, the flyover is expected to improve traffic flow, enhance road safety, and provide much-needed relief to commuters, while supporting Pune’s expanding urban transport infrastructure.
